Proposed Legislation

Below you may find pieces of legislation which the Grenada Monarchist League has drawn up and proposed to the Government of Grenada.

Grenada Privy Council (Establishment) Bill

The Grenada Privy Council (Establishment) Bill (originally named the Privy Council (Establishment) Bill) is a bill proposed to establish a Grenadian Privy Council as an advisory body to the King and the Governor-General. The primary aim of the legislation is to remove the role of the Prime Minister in advising the King on appointing of the Governor-General, and instead transfer that function to the Privy Council. The Grenadian Privy Council would consist of the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Chairman of the Public Service Commission, the most senior resident Judge of the High Court, and 2 appointees of the Governor-General. Tendering advice to the King on appointments to the office of Governor-General would be done by unanimous consent of the Council.

First draft: Privy Council (Establishment) Bill
National Honours, Awards and Heroes Bill

The National Honours, Awards and Heroes Bill seeks to reform and improve Grenada’s Honours System as established under the National Honours and Awards Act of 2007 and the Grenada National Honours Act of 1994. The bill excises the Most Distinguished Order of the Nation from the Order of Grenada, establishing it as a fully separate Order, codifies His Majesty’s traditional position as Sovereign of the Orders, and corrects various issues, problems and mistakes present in the present honours legislation. It also reforms the National Heroes Commission, facilitating the naming of National Heroes of Grenada.

Proposed to Government of Grenada on 17 October 2024.

Royal and Viceregal Titles Bill

The Royal and Viceregal Titles Bill is a bill which will grant an exclusively Grenadian title to the heir to the Throne: Prince of Carriacou. The bill is aimed at further enhancing the monarchy’s uniquely Grenadian characteristics by granting the heir a title connected directly to Grenada, rather than deferring to the heir’s British title of Prince of Wales as is done at present. The bill also statutorises the Grenadian Royal Title of the King, as well as regulating the titles and styles of the Governor-General and their spouse.
